Embracing Change: My Journey from Residential to Commercial Real Estate
A few years ago, I never would have imagined that I would be here today, proudly holding a commercial real estate brokerage license in addition to my residential license. Yet, as the saying goes so well: "Only fools never change their mind." And I'm happy to have had the courage to change mine.
The Catalyst: A Phrase That Changed Everything
It all started with a simple conversation with a client, Mr. Therrien. We were discussing a real estate project that required commercial brokerage expertise. That's when he said to me, with a hint of disappointment in his voice: "It's really sad that you're not authorized to do commercial."
Those words resonated with me long after our meeting. Instead of discouraging me, they ignited a flame. Why couldn't I add this skill to my repertoire? Why limit my abilities when my clients needed more?
I then made a decision that would transform my career: I embarked on commercial brokerage training.
The Journey: Between Determination and Sacrifices
2025: The Beginning of the Adventure
In 2025, I officially began my commercial brokerage training. I knew it wouldn't be easy — juggling between my residential clients, my personal life, and intensive studies represented a major challenge. But I was determined.
December 2025: First Trip to Montreal
Upon returning from my Christmas vacation, I headed to Montreal to take the school exam. This first trip was both exciting and stressful. Leaving my region, traveling for hours, reviewing in my hotel room... Every moment counted. But I knew it was necessary to achieve my goal.
April 2026: The Final Exam
In April, back to Montreal for the final exam — the one that would determine if all my efforts had paid off. The wait before the exam, the concentration during the hours of testing, then the return home with that question looping: "Did I pass?"
June 2026: The Pride of Success
In June, I received the results. I had passed! That moment remains etched in my memory as one of the most beautiful in my career. It wasn't just another diploma — it was proof that when we listen to our clients, step out of our comfort zone, and work relentlessly, anything is possible.
